Privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026
Staysi Housing Inc. ("Staysi", "we") arranges furnished housing for families displaced by insured damage. We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, provincial laws such as Quebec's Law 25, Alberta's PIPA and British Columbia's PIPA. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Through our website forms:
- Contact details: name, email, phone number and company or organization.
- Housing requests: household size, pets, accessibility needs, location, dates, claim number and adjuster details.
- Host applications: property address and description, availability and nightly rate.
- Partner applications: business details, services offered, service area and insurance information.
- Your consent choices for this policy and for marketing email.
For stays: the names of household members, stay dates and address, approvals from the insurer, invoices and payments, and messages about the stay.
Please don't send health information through our forms. If an accessibility need matters for a home, describe the need (for example "step-free entry") rather than a diagnosis.
No tracking: our website uses no analytics, no advertising tools and no cookies.
Why we collect it
- To answer enquiries and assess requests and applications.
- To find, arrange and manage a suitable home and any approved services.
- To obtain approvals, invoice and get paid, and keep records the insurer needs for the claim.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, and to prevent fraud.
We collect only what we need for these purposes and use it only for them, unless you agree otherwise or the law requires it.
Who we share it with
- The insurer handling the claim, and its adjuster, for approval, billing and claim records.
- Hosts: only what the stay needs, such as household size, pets, dates and a contact name.
- Service partners (movers, cleaners, restoration crews): only what an approved job needs.
- Our service providers who host our website and database, deliver email and support our operations, under contracts that require them to protect the information and use it only for us.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
We never sell personal information.
Storage outside Canada
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country under its laws. We use contracts and other safeguards to protect information wherever it is stored.
How long we keep it
- Stay records (approvals, invoices, payments and stay details): up to 7 years after the stay ends, to meet tax and claim requirements.
- Enquiries and applications that don't lead to a stay or agreement: up to 2 years.
After that, we securely delete or anonymize the information.
How we protect it
We use encryption in transit, access limited to staff who need it, protected accounts for our team, and providers with recognized security practices. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Marketing email
We send marketing email only if you ticked the box to agree. Every message has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop at any time.
Your rights
- Access: ask what information we hold about you and how it's been used and shared.
- Correction: ask us to fix information that's inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw consent: withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contract limits. We'll explain what that means for a stay or application.
We respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first.
